After the failed Times Square bombing, airports along the East Coast of the U.S. were placed under high alert. Still, with all of this new vigilance, the suspected plotter was able to clear security at JFK, board an Emirates flight, and have that flight begin the departure process - before authorities reacted.

This is eerily reminiscent of the Christmas Day fiasco.

At the core of these failings is the lack of coherent data and knowledge management strategies across the aviation security system.
