It's hard to see how American can emerge from bankruptcy and survive in the era of Flying Cheap, all the while competing with Mega-carriers like Delta and United.

The U.S Senate threw down the gauntlet yesterday by approving a measure that would allow airports to go with private screeners over government employees.

While such a measure has little chance of ever being signed into law by President Obama, lines are being drawn in the sand about the future of the TSA and its employees.

Frankly, this is a debate that needs to occur in this country.

The great questions about how much security is too much and the role of government in all this need to be addressed.
